Den Building By Shaan & Roshan
What do children learn from Den Building?
This requires them to use their planning and coordination skills; to lift and place wood / branches. This also allows children to work on their engineering skills. They work out the best way to form a strong structure, that will hold up well and allow them to get inside and play!
Den building is very good and gets children to work together, building their team work and social skills. The children get to combine their creative skills with outdoor play. This is also brilliant for children who have a lot of energy and are less keen to join in traditional arts and crafts sitting at a table.
The great thing about a den is, it's personal and they can create it any way they want; no right or wrong! They can decorate it and add their own personal touch. The end result is something they are always proud of and feel a sense of achievement.
This activity is perfect for imaginary play, as my boys always show. Once the den is built they turn it into a house, a cave, a fortress or anything else they think of!
It’s a free, simple and timeless no frills activity, which they have loads of fun doing but they also learn!
The den building can be done in your local nature reserve, woods, garden, or inside the home with other materials.
