HTS - Eco Committee Update - Eco Schools - Step 1

Hydesville Tower Schools' Eco-committee update

I am pleased to announce that we have started Step 1 of the process of trying to become an Eco-School. I have detailed below what this step is and how we are trying to achieve this.

Step 1 - Form an Eco-Committee

At least one pupil from each year group in the prep school has been selected for our Eco-Committee. This was done by asking for volunteers from pupils who were interested in being part of the changes we wanted to make.

All the committee members have been given a badge that we wear with pride, to show that we are part of making important changes for our school and planet.

We have already had a couple of meetings at school, as we meet every half term. In the meetings we have discussed what we would like our school Eco-Committee to represent. We have put forward ideas of what will best work for the pupils and school.

I have emailed Mr Honey, our headmaster and Mr Leslie, who helps chair the prep school meetings, some ideas about an 'Eco-board' at school. This will be a notice board so the whole school can see what the Eco-committee is about, what our goals are, what actions we are taking and our results. This board can also display the minutes of what we have discussed in the meeting. This will be really useful as every pupil in the school will be able to see the changes we are trying to make to the school.

The Eco-Committee members will have to be displayed on our Eco Board as this provides evidence towards our Green Flag award. We will need to display our names and year group. We can also choose to add photos of the pupils or even ask the members to draw their own picture or write a quote for our display.
The quotes I like using, are the ones I use on my blog;

There is representation from senior management on our Eco-Committee, however, they do not have to attend every meeting. When they cannot attend meetings, the Eco-Committee are responsible for updating them.

As Pupils of the committee, we will ensure that there is communication to and from the Eco-Committee to the rest of the school. So every single pupil at the school can see the changes we are trying to make and also be part of what we are trying to achieve.
